A day at the baseball park no longer means only beef- or pork-based brats for fans frequenting games throughout the summer. Rather, Major League Baseball organizations are expanding their fare to include many vegetarian- and vegan-friendly options.
As of opening day 2014, 26 of the 30 MLB ballparks around the U.S. and Canada have begun offering vegetarian hotdogs, largely due to the efforts of Veggie Happy (formerly known as Soy Happy), a volunteer project working to get a variety of veggie options served at sports venues around the country.
And these fan favorites are not solely limited to hotdogs. At Nationals Park, the home of the Washington Nationals baseball team, the Field of Greens cart specializes in vegetarian and vegan choices, offering everything from fresh, house-made veggie burgers to vegan crab cakes and vegetarian cheese stake. Other organizations, such as the Minnesota Twins, are also serving up veggie options that include burritos, tacos, and stir-frys.
